Now Enrolling: Fourth Grade Microclass at Great Commission Christian School

We’re looking for two Christian families with fourth-grade children interested in a microclass. There are two students in this class already, but we need two more to host it this year.

We are licensed as a school (for 20+ years) and have seasoned teachers, but we include some parents as teachers, so we are similar to a Co-op Christian community. The primary subjects taught are math, language-grammar & writing, reading, science, history & geography, spelling, and cursive handwriting.

We work together as a team, helping each other grow in wisdom and God’s Word. We plan the schedules together to work with our lives. You could work with other kids while your fourth grader is working in their class.

The heart of our ministry is to make disciples of Jesus Christ  - our children and whomever He sends to Great Commission Christian School.  We are a family, a community, a cozy spot in the middle of a big city - Brooklyn.

We are a ministry of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Canarsie, growing with God’s people. We have (separated) classrooms and a community space in our daylight semi-basement.

Subjects:

The primary subjects taught are math, language-grammar & writing, reading, science, history & geography, spelling, and cursive handwriting.

Extra-curricular activities that are happening during 4th grade school time: music, Holy Yoga/PE, art, Bible, French and we may offer: drama, nature, gardening and sewing, depending on the students interest.  As needed, we coach typing and computer skills.

Online working parents

For the parents at school: We have a full kitchen for family use. We do not offer lunch currently, but for the working parents, it's possible to hide away in the building and do some of your online work while your baby is resting or working with another mom or teacher.

Weekly Mom's Bible Study:

One day a week we have a mom’s Bible Study and prayer - parent encouragement time. This day is chosen so that moms and caregivers will be together. It is very important for keeping our community in peace and unity and encouraging one another to keep fighting the good fight of faith!

Recess:

The building has a large backyard where the kids go during recess for play time and also gardening exploration. The garden space is filled with dozens of types of flowers and vegetables, and even some chickens – a little Brooklyn oasis space!

School time:

Starts at 9:00 am and ends at 2:30 pm.  The building can open earlier, if it is needed. The schedule is flexible. Some days may go longer for special events like drama, music, gardening, gathering, French, and Christian yoga for kids and adults.

Tuition fee:

It goes from free for full-time parent-teachers to $4,000 a year per student. The cost depends on your participation in the ministry. Scholarships are available.
